Interpol's methodic meditations on misery are more than simple revamps of those post-punk icons. Songs like "PDA" have a jittery, lively emergency that could only come from the contemporary musical backdrop. Dark, anthemic, and filled with the kind of elliptical, faux-gothic lyrical padding that is likely to be scrawled on PeeChee folders by disenchanted high school misfits, the music is as familiar as it is necessary.

Many believe that Interpol wouldn't be Interpol without the rhythmic beats of drummer Sam Fogarino, groovy bass lines of Carlos D, intricate guitar work of Daniel Kessler and the dreary vocals from Paul Banks. The second album, Antics, was not as moody or atmospheric as the first, but the live performances, particularly "Not Even Jail," changed my mind about this completely. Their album released in September 28, 2004 Antics received notable accolades. Not only from critics but from other bands as well. Antics finds the band sounding more or less exactly the same, true, but the feel of the album, the flow of it, is completely different than their debut. Perhaps realizing too many of their songs were exactly the same (and far too slow and depressing, at that) the band has opted for a slightly more upbeat feeling, more tempo changes and an attempt to write more catchy songs.
